Dear Mr. St John,
after a few days struggling with the installation
VisualAge C
3.6.5
and 4.0, and their respective FixPacks (the Feature Installer (FI)
really sucks...), after I got them at a high price (high for a student,
and also high for a product without anymore support) on eBay, I made a
dream...
I think it would be great if Serenity could reach an agreement with IBM
and other firms that still sell OS/2 programming softwares, in order to
create an "eCS Programming pack" that could include these softs with,
for instance, improved installation programs. The work done for the Java
Runtime, converting the installer working with FI to eCSMT, is excellent
and could be done here. I think there also was a VisualAge for Java that
worked on OS/2, this would be part of it. Several companies also did a
Fortran 90 or 95 (Watcom is only Fortran 77, which is now very limited,
and I find its interface difficult to understand - VACPP has for
instance easy toolboxes for creating interfaces that I did not find in
Watcom), but they all abandoned the development. This would be a great
addition too, if one of these companies were willing to work with Serenity.
Of course, everything at an affordable price representing the work done
by Serenity, as these softwares are not supported by their respective
companies...
Cordially,
Aymeric Peyret
